Aliesha Newman (born 16 September 1995) is a talented Australian rules footballer. She plays as a forward for the Greater Western Sydney team. This team competes in the AFL Women's (AFLW) league. Before joining the Giants, Aliesha played for Melbourne, Collingwood, and Sydney.

Early Life and Background
Aliesha Newman was born in Queensland, Australia. She is part of the Ningy Ningy Indigenous Australian community. Her family comes from Redcliffe, Queensland. Aliesha spent some of her childhood on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Later, she moved to Melbourne in Victoria. This is where she grew up and went to school.
Aliesha's AFLW Journey
Playing for Melbourne
Aliesha Newman joined the Melbourne team in October 2016. She was signed as a free agent. Her first game was in the 2017 season. Melbourne played against Brisbane at Casey Fields.
After missing a few games, she returned to play in round five. She played against Greater Western Sydney. Aliesha finished her first season with four games played. Melbourne signed her again for the 2018 season. In 2018, Aliesha won the amazing Goal of the Year award. This was for a fantastic goal she kicked against Adelaide in round two.
Moving to Collingwood
In August 2020, Aliesha moved teams. She was traded from Melbourne to Collingwood. This move was part of a big deal involving three different clubs.
Time with Sydney Swans
In May 2022, Aliesha Newman joined the new Sydney team. She was a speedy forward and one of the most experienced players. She played nine games in Sydney's first AFLW season. Aliesha made history by being the first Indigenous AFLW player at all three of her first clubs.
In the 2023 season, Aliesha played her 50th AFLW game. This happened in round two against Geelong. She kicked three goals in that game, which was her best performance. She played ten games that season. Aliesha even kicked a goal in both of Sydney's first two final games. She also designed the Swans' first special Indigenous Round guernsey (jersey) for the AFLW in 2023.
Joining Greater Western Sydney
Before the 2024 AFL Women's season, Aliesha moved teams again. She was traded to the Greater Western Sydney team. This was another cross-town move for her.
Personal Life
Aliesha Newman grew up in Braybrook. This is a suburb in the western part of Melbourne. She has a younger sister, Teagan Newman. Teagan is also a talented athlete and is an Australian weightlifter.
