Knowing they won't be alive when she wakes up, her parents, the King and Queen, find a very safe place for her to rest. They also ask a young dragon named Nessie to watch over her for the next five centuries.

The story takes an unexpected turn when Alinda finally wakes up. She finds herself looking out of her glass bed at a young man named Grant. From this moment on, Alinda learns about a completely new, modern world. She discovers things like airplanes, cars, and rock music. She also sees very different clothing styles compared to her own time.
