What Was the Aliya Market?
The Aliya Market was a special place where goods were bought and sold in large quantities. This is called "wholesale." It was a central spot for traders and merchants in Tel Aviv. The market helped the city grow and provided a place for people to get many different products.
History of the Market
The Aliya Market building was designed in 1938. It was built in a style called Bauhaus, which was very popular at the time. Bauhaus buildings often have clean lines and simple shapes. The market was one of the first modern markets in Tel Aviv. It was built on Aliya Street, which was a busy area.
The Market Buildings
The Aliya Market actually had two main buildings. These were called the western building and the eastern building. They stood side-by-side, serving as a hub for trade.
- The western building was kept and later fixed up. It still stands today, showing a piece of Tel Aviv's past.
- Sadly, the eastern building was torn down. It no longer exists.
What Happened to the Market?
The Aliya Market served the city for many years. However, as Tel Aviv grew, the city needed an even bigger market. In 1952, the main wholesale activities moved to a new, larger place. This new place was called the Central Wholesale Market. After this move, the Aliya Market was no longer the main wholesale center.
