The Story of All Hallows Church
Building the Church: 1873-1874
The church was built a long time ago, between 1873 and 1874. A famous church architect named Ewan Christian designed it. An architect is someone who plans and designs buildings. The money to build the church came from a group called the Clothworkers' Company. They used money from an older church, All Hallows Staining, which was taken down in 1873.
Rebuilding After World War II
During the Second World War, the church was damaged by bombs. After the war, it was rebuilt from 1954 to 1955 by A P Robinson. He kept some of the original parts but made the church look new. In 2001, a part of the church called the nave was divided. This created a separate space that could be used as a church hall. The church is located in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
Leadership and Community
The main leader of the church is called the Rector. The current Rector of All Hallows is Cris Rogers. In 2010, he came to All Hallows, Bow, with a team from another church, St Paul's, Shadwell. He worked as a curate at the church from 2010 to 2014. A curate is like an assistant to the main priest.
In 2015, there was a special ceremony to officially welcome Cris Rogers as the Rector. Adrian Newman, who was the Bishop of Stepney, led this ceremony. Many people had already started coming to the church to worship before this date.
