What the Movie is About
The story follows a 12-year-old girl named Belle. She faces a very sad time after her mother dies in a car accident. Belle is sent to live at her grandfather's house. This happens after she lets out all the dogs from a kennel where her father works.
Later, animals in Belle's hometown start to get sick and even die. Her father's girlfriend, who is a veterinarian, tries hard to find out what is causing this illness.
When Belle's father and his girlfriend visit, Belle's own dog attacks Basham, who works on her grandfather's farm. Belle is now helping to run the farm. She believes the dog should be put to sleep, based on what she has learned about farm life.
This decision comes after Belle runs away. She takes one of her grandfather's horses, two puppies, and the dog she later thinks about putting down. Belle almost gets hurt badly during a big rainstorm. She slips and falls on some railroad tracks as a train gets close. Luckily, Basham saves her just in time.
Just as the dog is about to be put to sleep, a big discovery is made. The food Basham was carrying had a dangerous mold in it. This mold was making all the animals sick and causing them to die. The vet goes to the factory where the food was made. She fixes the problem, which stops the animal sickness.
After all this, Belle's rich grandfather turns an old inn into a special animal shelter. This shelter makes sure no animals are ever put down.
