Discovering All Saints' Church
This amazing church has been standing for a very long time. It was first built way back in the 13th century, which means it's over 700 years old! Imagine all the history it has seen.
What the Church Looks Like
The church has different parts that were built at different times.
- The main body of the church, including the chancel (the area around the altar), the nave (where people sit), and two aisles (passageways on the sides), dates back to the 13th century.
- The tall west tower, which is at one end of the church, was added later in the 15th century.
- Inside, you can see the altar rails, which are fences around the altar, from the early 17th century.
Special Features Inside
The windows in the chancel have very unique patterns called tracery. These patterns might also be from the 17th century. Inside the church, there's a beautiful Norman arcade. An arcade is a row of arches supported by columns. This one is from the Norman period, which was even earlier than the 13th century! You can also find a lovely collection of "poppy heads" on the ends of the wooden benches. These are decorative carvings, often shaped like flowers or faces, from the 15th century.
