History of the Church
How Old is the Church?
This church is really old! It was first built way back in the 13th century, which means the 1200s. Imagine all the history it has seen!
What Does the Church Look Like Inside?
The main parts of the church, like the chancel (the area around the altar), the nave (the main seating area), and the two aisles (side sections), were built in the 13th century. The tall tower at the west end of the church was added later, in the 15th century (the 1400s).
Inside, you can see some interesting features:
- The altar rails, which separate the altar area, are from the early 17th century (the 1600s).
- The windows in the chancel have very unique tracery. This means the fancy stone patterns that hold the glass. These patterns might also be from the 17th century.
- There's a Norman arcade inside. This is a row of arches built in the Norman style, which was popular after the Norman conquest in 1066.
- You can also spot a cool collection of poppy heads from the 15th century. These are carved decorations found on the ends of the wooden benches where people sit.
