All Saints’ Church, Youlgreave is a very old and important church in Youlgreave, Derbyshire, England. It is a parish church that belongs to the Church of England. This church is so special that it is a Grade I listed building, which means it's considered a really important historical place.

A Look Back in Time: The Church's History

This church has been standing for a long, long time! It was first built in the late 1100s. Over the years, new parts were added in the 1300s, 1400s, and 1500s.

In the late 1800s, between 1869 and 1870, the church got a big makeover. A famous architect named Richard Norman Shaw helped restore it. During this time, the roofs were completely replaced.

A beautiful new window was put in the chancel (the part of the church near the altar). This window was designed by Edward Burne-Jones, a famous artist from Birmingham. The floor in the chancel was also raised and covered with special patterned tiles. The rest of the church got new tiles too, and a new heating system was installed.

The church's organ was moved to a different spot, and the old wooden benches were replaced with new oak seating. All these improvements cost about £5,100 at the time.

Memorials: Remembering People

Inside the church, you can find memorials. These are special plaques or tombs that remember people who have passed away. They often tell you a little bit about the person.

  • Thomas Cockayne (died 1488)

Parish Status: Working Together

A parish is like a local area that a church serves. All Saints’ Church is part of a joint parish. This means it works closely with a few other churches in the area:

The Church Organ

The church has a wonderful organ built by Kirtland and Jardine. An organ is a large musical instrument that uses pipes to make sound.

The first version of this organ had two keyboards and 16 different sounds (called "stops"). It was first played on April 15, 1863. Later, in 1873, it was updated by Jardine of Manchester. You can find more details about this organ on the National Pipe Organ Register website.
