Who Built the Church?
A kind local person named John Miles paid for All Saints' Church to be built. He was a wealthy landowner. He also gave the land where the church stands. Mr. Miles also provided the church's parish hall and the vicarage (where the church's priest lives) in Myddleton Park.
Church Design and Style
The church was built around 1883. It was designed by an architect named Joseph Clarke. He used a style called Gothic Revival. This style looks like the old Gothic churches from the Middle Ages.
Parts of the Church
The main part of the church is called the nave. It has aisles on both the north and south sides. These are like hallways along the main seating area. At the end of the church is an apsidal chancel. This is a rounded area where the altar is. The church also has a tall tower with a spire (a pointed top) at its north-west corner.
Building Materials and Art
The outside of the church is made of flint stones. It also has smooth, cut stones called ashlar around the windows and doors. Inside the church, you can see beautiful paintings on the walls. These special wall paintings, called murals, were created by an artist named Thomas Gambier Parry.
Remembering Heroes: War Memorials
Inside All Saints' Church, there are special plaques. These plaques remember people who died in the World Wars. In the church's porch, there is a "Roll of Honour." This list names the people from the area who died in the First World War.
Outside the church, at the corner of Oakleigh Road North and Myddleton Park, there is another memorial. This monument remembers people from both World Wars. It is called the All Saints Church Parishioners war memorial. The names of those remembered are also written inside the church.
