A Look Back in Time
All Saints’ Church has a long history, going all the way back to the 1100s! Parts of the church you see today were built in the 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries.
Restoring the Church
Between 1903 and 1905, the church was carefully repaired and updated. This kind of work is called a restoration. It cost about £370 back then, which would be a lot more money today!
After the work was finished, the church was rededicated. This special ceremony was led by the Bishop of Southwell, Sir Edwyn Hoskyns, on September 27, 1905.
New Features Added
During the restoration, some beautiful new parts were added. A new window was put in at the east end of the church. This window was made by a famous company called Clayton and Bell. It was added to remember a person named Hon. Adelaide Augusta Wilhelmina Hunloke.
The font, which is a basin used for baptisms, was replaced. Also, the main seating areas, called the nave and aisles, got new pews (benches).
Later Changes
More recently, the church was made bigger between 1963 and 1964. This work was done by architects named Naylor, Sale and Widdows.
The Church Organ
The church has a musical instrument called an organ. Organs are very large and make sound using pipes.
Old Organ
The first organ in the church was installed in 1867. It was made by a company called Brindley & Foster. You can find details about this old organ on the National Pipe Organ Register. This is a special record of organs across the country.
New Organ
In 2006, the old organ was replaced. A new organ was installed by a company called Henry Groves & Son.
