History of the Cathedral
The story of the All Saints Cathedral began on February 1, 1724. This was the very same day the city of Calabozo was founded! A priest named Father Cadiz blessed the land where the city and church would be built.
Early Days and First Church
After the blessing, the villagers and the priest worked together. They planted a simple cross to mark the spot for the future church. They also planned out the city's main square and its first four streets. Twelve plots of land were given out for homes.
The first church building was quite simple. It was built between 1754 and 1790. Construction was slow, taking many years to complete.
Building the Current Cathedral
Later, a second, larger church was started. This is the building we see today. The most famous part of the cathedral, its big dome with a clock, was added much later in the 20th century. This dome and clock have become a symbol of Calabozo. It is one of the most important landmarks in the Venezuelan state of Guárico.
