Johan Allan Edwall (born August 25, 1924 – died February 7, 1997) was a talented Swedish actor, director, writer, and singer. Many people in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries loved him for playing kind characters in movies and TV shows based on the children's stories by Astrid Lindgren. You might know her from books like Pippi Longstocking!
Allan Edwall also appeared in over 400 different movies and plays during his long career. He even won an award for Best Actor at the 10th Guldbagge Awards in 1974. This was for his role in the movie Emil and the Piglet.

Allan Edwall's Career Highlights
Allan Edwall went to the Royal Dramatic Training Academy in Stockholm from 1949 to 1952 to learn acting. He was a very busy person, working on many projects.
Film and Directing Work
Outside of Sweden, Allan Edwall was known for his smaller parts in films by the famous director Ingmar Bergman, like Fanny and Alexander (1982). He also directed his own film, Åke and His World, in 1984. This movie was even shown at the 14th Moscow International Film Festival.
Music and Songs
Allan Edwall was also a singer and composer. He wrote his own songs that often talked about fairness and problems in society. His music sounded a lot like traditional folk music, often using instruments like the violin and accordion. He was so good that he won a Swedish Grammy award after he passed away in 2006.
His Own Theatre
In 1986, Allan Edwall bought his own theatre in Stockholm called Teater Brunnsgatan Fyra. He ran this theatre until he passed away in 1997. Today, it is still an important place for theatre. Allan Edwall was also a father to two sons: Mattias Edwall, who is a photographer, and Måns Edwall, who was a stage director, actor, and musician.
