Benjamin Norman Schultz (born February 8, 1926 – died August 22, 2020), known to everyone as Allan Rich, was an American actor. He was known for playing many different types of characters in movies and TV shows.
Allan Rich's Acting Journey
Allan Rich started acting when he was just nine years old. He performed in plays on Broadway, which is a famous theater district in New York City. Some of his early plays included I'll Take the High Road in 1943 and Darkness at Noon in 1951.
Later in his career, starting in 1979, Allan Rich also worked with famous photographer George Hurrell. He helped distribute and publish Hurrell's amazing Hollywood portraits.
Life and Family
Allan Rich faced a tough time in the 1950s. During this period, some people in Hollywood were wrongly accused of being communist supporters. This was called the Hollywood blacklist. Because of these accusations, Allan Rich and many others were prevented from working in the entertainment industry for a while.
He married Elaine in 1951. She later became a manager for other actors. They moved to Los Angeles in 1976 and had two children, Marian and David. Elaine passed away in 2015 when she was 81 years old.
Allan Rich also helped other actors. He even mentored the well-known actress Rene Russo, teaching her about acting.
For the last five years of his life, Allan Rich lived at the Lillian Booth Actors Home. This home helps actors who need care. He passed away in August 2020 at the age of 94.
Making a Difference
Allan Rich cared about helping young people. He was a co-founder of a non-profit group called We Care About Kids. This organization creates short educational films. These films are made for middle and high school students. They help young people learn important lessons.
Acting Roles
Allan Rich appeared in many films and television shows throughout his long career. He often played serious or important characters. Some of his notable film roles included parts in Serpico (1973), The Gambler (1974), and Rocky IV (1985). He also appeared in Quiz Show (1994) and Amistad (1997).
On television, he was seen in popular shows like Happy Days (1979), Hill Street Blues (1981-1983), and The Golden Girls (1987). His final film role was in Wish I Was Here in 2014.
