The Story of Allen Chapel
Allen Chapel was founded in the 1870s. It was settled by people who had recently gained their freedom. Around 1900, an African Methodist Episcopal Church was built there. This church was on land given by Nat Allen. The community was later named after him. In the mid-1930s, the community had the church and a few scattered houses. By the early 1990s, a community center was added. Many people living there today are related to the first settlers.

Allen Chapel is located in eastern Houston County, Texas. You can find it on Texas State Highway 7. It is about one mile south of Ratcliff.
Schools in Allen Chapel
The first school in Allen Chapel opened in 1910. This school building was still standing in the mid-1930s. In 1968, the school became part of the Kennard Independent School District. However, the school building was returned in 1985.
