Allen Frantzen facts for kids
Allen J. Frantzen (born 1947) is an American expert who studies the Middle Ages. He specializes in Old English literature, which means he studies very old writings from England. After working for many years at Loyola University Chicago, he is now a retired professor with a special title called an emeritus professor.
About Allen J. Frantzen
Allen J. Frantzen grew up in the countryside of Iowa. He went to Loras College and earned a degree in English. Later, he continued his studies at the University of Virginia. For his advanced degree, he wrote a long paper about old English writings from the Anglo-Saxon period.
Professor Frantzen started teaching at Loyola University Chicago in 1978. He taught there until he retired in 2014. During his time at the university, he was in charge of the advanced English programs for students from 1984 to 1988.
In 1992, he started the Loyola Community Literacy Center. This center helps people in the community, as well as university students, improve their reading and writing skills.
Awards and Recognition
Professor Frantzen has received several important awards for his work:
- In 1993, he was given a Guggenheim Fellowship. This is a special award that helps people do important research and creative work.
- Loyola University Chicago recognized him as the Faculty Member of the Year in 1991. He was also named a Master Teacher in 1997–98 and a Faculty Scholar in 2000.
- In 2013, he received the Teaching Excellence Award from the Medieval Academy of America. This award honors professors who are great at teaching about the Middle Ages.
- In 2015, his former students organized a special conference called Opera Omnia: A Festspiel for Allen J. Frantzen. This event celebrated all of his achievements and contributions.
