Allendorf is a small, unincorporated community located in Osceola County, Iowa, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
You can find Allendorf on Highway 59. It's about five miles east of a town called Sibley. The community is also right next to the Johnson Wilderness Area, a natural space.
History of Allendorf
Allendorf was founded in the year 1895. It's thought that the community might have been named after a town called Allendorf in Germany.
Interestingly, when it was first established, the community had a different name: Oliver. Over time, its name changed to Allendorf.
Population Changes Over Time
Allendorf has always been a very small community. In 1902, only 13 people lived there. By 1925, the population had grown a little to 35 people. The highest population recorded was 60 people in 1940.
