How Allentown Got Its Name
The Allentown area was first settled in 1879 by a person named Joseph Allen. The neighborhood was named after him.

In February 1989, the people living in Allentown voted to become a part of the city of Tukwila. This decision added about 1,200 new residents to Tukwila. It also expanded the city's size by about 2.6 square miles (6.7 square kilometers).
