Allie Long (born August 13, 1987) is an American soccer player. She is a talented midfielder who has played for many top teams. These include Portland Thorns FC, Seattle Reign FC, and NJ/NY Gotham FC. She also played for the U.S. national team.
Allie made her first appearance for the national team on May 8, 2014. This was in a friendly game against Canada. She has played in over 50 games for her country.
Before playing professionally, Allie played college soccer. She played for the Penn State Nittany Lions from 2005 to 2006. Then, she moved to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, she played for the Tar Heels. In 2008, her Tar Heels team won the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.
Allie has also played for international clubs. She played for Paris Saint-Germain in France. She is known for her strong play in the midfield.

Allie Long's Early Life and Soccer Start
Allie Long was born in Huntington, New York. Her parents are Barbara and James Long. She grew up with her younger brother, Patrick. Allie started playing soccer at a young age.
She played for the Northport Cow Harbor Mustangs. Later, she joined the Albertson Soccer Club. With Albertson, she won four State Open Cup titles in a row. Allie was also part of the Olympic Development Program. This program helps find and train young soccer talent.
Allie went to Northport High School from 2001 to 2005. She played varsity soccer for all four years. Her high school team had an amazing record. They went undefeated in the regular season every year. In 2005, they reached the Long Island semifinals. Allie was named to the All-State first team. She also made the All-County team all four years. She was even named Newsday's Player of the Year twice.
College Soccer at Penn State (2005–2006)
Allie attended Pennsylvania State University from 2005 to 2006. In her first year (2005), she played in all 25 games. She started 22 of those games. Her team, the Penn State Nittany Lions, had a fantastic season. They finished with 23 wins, 0 losses, and 2 ties. Allie scored four goals and had six assists that year.
She earned many awards as a freshman. These included being named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Region team. She was also on the All-Big Ten team.
In her second year (2006), Allie scored six goals. She also had four assists. She missed the first five games. This was because she was playing for the U.S. in the U-20 World Championships. Allie was a first-team All-Big Ten player. She was also named the Big Ten's offensive player of the week.
Playing for North Carolina (2007–2008)
In 2007, Allie transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She played in all 24 games for the Tar Heels. She started 22 of them. Allie scored five goals that season. She scored her first two goals for the Tar Heels against Yale. This was her only game with multiple goals that year. She was also on the watchlist for the Hermann Trophy. This award goes to the best college soccer player.
Allie Long's Professional Club Career
Starting with Washington Freedom (2009–2010)
In 2009, Allie was chosen seventh overall in the 2009 WPS Draft. She was picked by the Washington Freedom. This was for the first season of Women's Professional Soccer (WPS). She played her first game on March 29, 2009.
In 2009, Allie played in 18 games for the Freedom. She helped the team finish third in the league. She also scored two goals. The Freedom lost in the playoffs that year. Allie stayed with the team for the 2010 season. She scored the only goal in their first game. She played in 21 games and scored two goals.
Moving to Sky Blue FC (2011)
After 2010, Allie became a free agent. She then signed with Sky Blue FC in November 2010. The coach said Allie was becoming a top player. He expected her to help the team succeed.
Allie played her first game for Sky Blue on April 10, 2011. She was named the WPS Player of the Week after that game. She played in 18 games for Sky Blue. She scored three goals, with two of them being penalty kicks.
Playing in France for Paris Saint-Germain (2011–2012)
Right after the 2011 WPS season, Allie went to France. She played for Paris Saint-Germain. This was for the 2011–2012 season. She first played for them on October 16, 2011.
Allie played in 12 games for the team. She started nine of those games. She scored four goals while playing in France. Her last game for them was on March 25, 2012.
Back in New York with the Fury (2012)
In 2012, the WPS league was stopped. So, Allie signed with the New York Fury. This team was in the Women's Premier Soccer League Elite. This was a new league for semi-professional players.
The Fury finished third in their league. They made it to the playoffs. Allie scored the only goal for the Fury in their semifinal game. However, her team lost 2–1.
Success with Portland Thorns FC (2013–2017)
On January 17, 2013, Allie signed with the Portland Thorns FC. This team was part of the new National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Allie became one of Portland's most important players.
She scored the most goals for the team in 2015. She helped the Thorns win the NWSL Championship in 2013. They also reached the semifinals in 2014 and 2016. In 2017, she helped them win the championship again! By the end of 2017, she had played the most games for the Thorns. She was also their second-highest scorer.
Short Loan to Chelsea FC (2013)
After the 2013 NWSL season, Allie went on a short loan. She played for Chelsea Ladies in Japan. She played in their International Women's Club Championship. She then returned to Portland.
Playing for Reign FC (2018–2021)
On January 11, 2018, Allie was traded to Seattle Reign FC. She played in 19 regular season games for Seattle in 2018. She scored three goals. She missed some games due to a knee injury. But she came back for the playoffs. Seattle lost to her old team, the Portland Thorns.
Joining NJ/NY Gotham FC (2021–2023)
On April 27, 2021, Allie joined NJ/NY Gotham FC. She played for them until 2023.
Futsal Fun
For several years, Allie has also played indoor soccer, called futsal. She plays in gyms in Queens and Brooklyn, New York City. She plays on very competitive men's teams. She is a favorite with the fans, who sometimes call her "la rubia" (blondie).
Playing for the United States National Team
Allie Long has played for the United States at different levels. She was on the U-20 and U-23 national teams. She was also part of the U-20 Women's World Championship team in 2006.
She was first called up to the main national team in July 2010. Her official international debut was on May 8, 2014. This was against Canada. She scored her first two goals for the U.S. team on April 6, 2016. These goals were in a friendly game against Colombia.
Allie was on the U.S. national team for the 2016 Olympics. She started in three of the four games the team played. After the Olympics, the coach tried different team setups. Allie sometimes played as a center-back. But she later moved back to her usual midfield position.
In May 2019, Allie was named to the team for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. This was her first time playing in a senior World Cup. The U.S. team went on to win the World Cup that year!

In October 2016, Allie Long married Jose Batista. Her teammates Alex Morgan and Tobin Heath were her maids of honor.
