Alexandra Linsley Long (born August 13, 1987), known as Allie Long, is an American soccer player. She plays as a midfielder. Allie has played for several teams in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). These teams include Portland Thorns FC, OL Reign, and NJ/NY Gotham FC. She also played for the United States national team.
Allie made her first appearance for the national team on May 8, 2014. This was in a friendly match against Canada. She has played in 51 games for the national team. Before becoming a professional, Allie played college soccer for the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Tar Heels. She helped the Tar Heels win the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament in 2008.

Allie's Early Life and School Soccer
Allie Long was born in Huntington, New York. Her parents are Barbara and James Long. She grew up with her younger brother, Patrick. Allie started playing soccer at a young age. She played for the Northport Cow Harbor Mustangs. Later, she joined the Albertson Soccer Club. With this club, she won four State Open Cup titles in a row.
Allie also played for the Olympic Development Program (ODP) for several years. This program helps find and train talented young soccer players.
High School Soccer Success
Allie went to Northport High School from 2001 to 2005. She played varsity soccer for all four years. Her high school team had an amazing record, staying undefeated in the regular season for all four years. In 2005, Northport reached the Long Island semifinals.
Allie was recognized as a top player. She was named to the All-State first team and All-County team every year. After her junior and senior years, she was named Newsday's Player of the Year. She also earned the Suffolk County Player of the Year award.
College Soccer at Penn State
Allie attended Pennsylvania State University from 2005 to 2006. In her first year (2005), she played in all 25 games. She started in 22 of them. She scored four goals and had six assists that season. The team had a fantastic record of 23 wins, 0 losses, and 2 ties.
Allie received many awards during her freshman year. She was named to several All-Region and All-America teams. She was also part of the All-Big Ten team.
In her second year (2006), Allie scored six goals and had four assists. She played in 21 games, starting all of them. She missed the first five games because she was playing for the United States U-20 team in Russia. Allie was named a first-team All-Big Ten player. She also received the Big Ten's offensive player of the week award.
College Soccer at North Carolina
In 2007, Allie transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She played in 24 games and started 22. She scored five goals that season. Her first two goals for North Carolina came in a game against Yale. For this great performance, she was named to several National Teams of the Week.
Allie's Professional Club Career
Allie Long has had a long and successful career playing for many professional soccer clubs.
Starting with Long Island Fury
During her college summers, Allie played for the Long Island Fury in the Women's Premier Soccer League. Her coach there was Paul Riley.
Playing for Washington Freedom
In 2009, Allie was chosen by the Washington Freedom in the first round of the WPS Draft. This was for the first season of the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league. She played her first game on March 29, 2009.
During the 2009 season, Allie played in 18 games and scored two goals. The Freedom finished third in the league. She stayed with the team for the 2010 season. She scored two more goals in 21 games.
Moving to Sky Blue FC
After the 2010 season, Allie joined Sky Blue FC in November 2010. The coach, Jim Gabarra, said Allie was becoming a "prominent player." She played her first game for Sky Blue on April 10, 2011. She was even named the WPS Player of the Week after that game.
Allie played in 18 games for Sky Blue and scored three goals. Two of these goals were from penalty kicks.
Playing in France for Paris Saint-Germain
After the 2011 WPS season, Allie went to France. She played for Paris Saint-Germain in the Division 1 Féminine league. She played 12 games for the team and scored four goals. Her time in France lasted from October 2011 to March 2012.
Back in the USA with New York Fury
In 2012, the WPS league stopped playing. Allie then signed with the New York Fury. This team was part of the Women's Premier Soccer League Elite. The Fury finished third in their league. Allie scored one goal for the team in the semifinals.
Becoming a Star at Portland Thorns FC
On January 17, 2013, Allie joined the Portland Thorns FC. This was a new team in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Allie quickly became one of Portland's most important players.
She scored the most goals for the team in the 2015 season. She helped the Thorns win the NWSL Championship in 2013 and again in 2017. By the end of the 2017 season, she had played the most games for the Thorns. She was also the team's second-highest scorer.
Short Loan to Chelsea FC
After the 2013 NWSL season, Allie had a short loan to Chelsea Ladies in England. She played in a tournament in Japan but did not play in any league matches before returning to Portland.
Playing for OL Reign
On January 11, 2018, Allie was traded to OL Reign (formerly Seattle Reign FC). She played in 19 games for OL Reign in 2018 and scored three goals. She helped the team reach the semifinals.
Joining NJ/NY Gotham FC
On April 27, 2021, Allie moved to NJ/NY Gotham FC. She played for Gotham FC until 2023. She played 39 games and scored 3 goals for the team. In 2023, she helped Gotham FC win the NWSL Championship.
Playing for Kansas City Current
In 2024, Allie joined the Kansas City Current.
Allie's Futsal Experience
For several years, Allie has also played futsal. Futsal is a type of indoor soccer. She plays in high school gyms in Queens and Brooklyn, New York City. She often plays on competitive men's teams for prize money. Spectators, especially those from Latin American backgrounds, enjoy watching her play. They sometimes call her "la rubia" (the blondie) or "la blanquita" (the little white girl).
Allie's International Career
Allie Long has represented the United States at different levels. She played for the U-20 and U-23 national teams. She was part of the U-20 Women's World Championship team in 2006.
She was first called up to the senior national team in July 2010. Her official debut for the United States senior women's team was on May 8, 2014. She scored her first two goals for the national team on April 6, 2016, in a friendly match against Colombia.
Allie was part of the U.S. national team that played in the 2016 Olympics. She started in three of the four games the team played.
In May 2019, Allie was named to the final roster for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. This was her first time playing in a senior World Cup. The United States team won the World Cup that year!
Allie's Personal Life
In October 2016, Allie married Jose Batista. Her teammates Alex Morgan and Tobin Heath were her maids of honor. In January 2022, Allie and Jose separated.
In April 2022, Allie announced she was expecting twins with her boyfriend, Casey Cordial. On May 23, 2022, she gave birth to a girl named Siena Maxwell and a boy named Trent Jameson.
