Allocasuarina trichodon is a type of shrub that grows in Western Australia. It belongs to a group of plants called Allocasuarina. You can find this shrub along the south coast in areas known as the Great Southern and Goldfields-Esperance regions.
This shrub usually grows to be about 0.5 to 3 meters (about 1.6 to 9.8 feet) tall. It likes to grow in rocky soils and on hillsides made of granite.
About Its Name
Scientists give plants special names to help identify them. This is called taxonomy.
This plant was first described in 1845 by a scientist named Miquel. He named it Casuarina trichodon. Later, in 1982, another scientist named L.A.S.Johnson changed its name to Allocasuarina trichodon, which is what we call it today.
