Alloway is a charming house that looks like it's from the 1870s. The doorbell has the year 1876 on it. The pretty metal lace decorations on the house are from 1880.

The land where Alloway stands was first given to James Traynor in 1860. Later, Alexander McIntosh bought the house in 1882. In 1951, F. J. Crowe bought it from the McIntosh family.

Design and Features

The house is made of large wooden boards called weatherboards. It has a roof with a steep slope and pointed ends, called a gabled roof. A smaller gable sticks out over the front verandah.

The verandah has fancy cast iron lace designs and wooden posts. Its floor is made of bricks. The side of the house facing east has been covered with a screen.

The front verandah has French doors with wooden shutters. These doors have brass doorknobs and curved glass.

Inside and Out

A kitchen area is attached to the main house. Next to the kitchen is a small apartment. This apartment used to be a room for horse harnesses.

Inside the house, the walls and ceilings are also made of weatherboards. The doors and door frames are made of cedar wood.

Alloway has a lovely, well-kept garden. It has many old, tall trees. The fence at the front of the house might be the original one. It is made of twisted wire and wooden posts.
