Almargen is a small town and a municipality (like a local government area) in southern Spain. It's located in the province of Málaga, which is part of the autonomous community (a region with its own government) of Andalusia.
Almargen is about 105 kilometers (65 miles) away from Málaga, the capital city of the province. It's also close to other towns like Ronda (43.7 km away) and Antequera (48.2 km away). Around 2,100 people live in Almargen. The people who live there are called Almargeños.
This town is one of the most northwestern places in the Málaga province. It shares borders with the provinces of Seville and Cadiz. Almargen is part of a group of towns called the comarca of Guadalteba. Other towns in this group include Ardales, Campillos, and Teba.
Most people in Almargen work in farming and raising animals. They have many pigs, which is an important part of their local economy.

Exploring Almargen's Landscape
Almargen is located in a special area where different types of landscapes meet. It's a borderland between the mountains of Serranía de Ronda and the flat plains of Málaga to the north. It also connects to the countrysides of Seville and Cádiz.
Mountains and Plains
The land around Almargen can be quite rugged, especially towards the mountainous area of Cañete la Real. Here, the roads wind through narrow valleys, like the Cañada de la Saucedilla. They climb up towards towns that are at the edge of the mountains.
This hilly landscape is very different from the flat farming plains that surround Almargen. These plains are filled with olive groves, corn, and sunflowers.
Local Hills
Beyond the flat plains, you'll find small, rounded hills. These hills mark the highest points around the town. Some of these hills include Salguera (620 meters high), Galán (612 meters high), and La Grana (649 meters high). La Grana is located near the very edge of the municipality.
Origin of the Name Almargen
The name Almargen comes from the Arabic language.
