Almo became an important place in the early 1890s. This was when the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway set up a rail center there. A rail center is a hub where trains stop, load, and unload goods. It helps connect different areas.

The Story Behind the Name
The community's name has an interesting history. When a post office first opened on February 11, 1891, it was called Buena, Kentucky.
From Buena to Almo
Less than two years later, on November 18, 1892, the post office name changed to Almo. Historians think the new name might be a shorter version of "Alamo". The Alamo is a famous historic site in Texas, known for a battle during the Texas Revolution.
The Post Office Closes
The Almo post office served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed its doors. The post office officially stopped operating on August 15, 2022.
