Aloha Horizons Camp is a fun summer camp for boys and girls. It is located on Lake Fairlee in West Fairlee, Vermont. The camp first opened in 1921 as Camp Wyoda.

In 1997, the Aloha Foundation bought the camp property. Now, they run it as a day camp. It's for local children and families visiting the area. Camp is split into three two-week sessions. Kids can enjoy many activities. These include water sports, land sports, and arts and crafts. The camp grounds were once a farm. They are special because they still have many old buildings. These buildings show how camps were built long ago. The camp property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. This means it is an important historical site.

What's at Camp?

Aloha Horizons Camp is on the north side of Lake Fairlee. It is close to where Middle Brook flows into the lake. The camp covers about 98 acres (about 40 hectares). Roads divide the camp property. Vermont Route 244 runs along the lake. Middlebrook Road goes up a hill next to the stream.

Most of the camp buildings are west of Middlebrook Road. They are also north of Route 244. Sports fields are east of Middlebrook Road. The waterfront area is south of Route 244.

Old Camp Buildings

The main buildings at camp are very old. They were built in the camp's first 20 years. These include the Main Building, the Infirmary (where nurses work), the Arts & Crafts Building, and the Nature Building. They are built in a style called Adirondack Rustic. This style uses natural materials like wood and stone.

Fun at the Waterfront

The waterfront area is a great place to be. It has a boathouse for storing boats. There are also bleachers. These are seats for watching exciting events on the water.

Camp History

Camp Wyoda was started in 1916. Harvey and Margaret McLean Newcomer founded it. At first, the camp was in rented buildings. These were on Passumpsic Point, a bit east of the current spot.

Moving to a New Home

By 1921, the camp had grown very big. The Newcomers needed more space. So, they bought the Thompson farmstead. This farm was from the 1800s. Some parts of the old farm buildings are still there. They are part of the Main Building and the Arts & Crafts Building. These buildings were rebuilt a lot in 1947.

New Owners, New Adventures

The Newcomer family ran Camp Wyoda for three generations. In 1997, they sold the camp to the Aloha Foundation. This organization runs three other camps nearby. One of them is Aloha Hive Camp. Today, Aloha Horizons Camp is a day camp for younger children. It is also an outing-based camp for older kids. This means older kids go on trips and adventures.
