Exploring Alpandeire's Past
Early Beginnings and Moorish Times
Alpandeire has a long history! In ancient times, people lived here during the Iron Age and Bronze Age. We know this because old burial grounds have been found in the area.
Later, during the time of the Moors (who were people from North Africa who lived in Spain for many centuries), Alpandeire was a fort. This fort was built by the Saracens, a group of Moors, after a big battle called Guadalete.
A Reward for Bravery
In 1815, Alpandeire received a special honor from King Fernando VII. The village was given the title of "Villazgo." This was a reward for how bravely the people of Alpandeire resisted during the French occupation of Spain. They showed great strength and determination!
A Place of Pilgrimage
The traditional patron saint of Alpandeire is the "Virgen del Rosario" (Virgin of the Rosary).
Alpandeire is also famous as the birthplace of a blessed man named Fray Leopoldo. Today, many people visit Alpandeire as a pilgrimage site to honor him. He was known for his simple prayers.
