Alpens is a small town in Spain. It is located in the region of Catalonia, within the province of Barcelona. Alpens is part of a special area called a comarca, which is like a county. This comarca is named Lluçanès.
The town of Alpens is about 105 kilometers (65 miles) away from the big city of Barcelona. It's also just 13 kilometers (8 miles) from Prats de Lluçanès, which is the main town of the Lluçanès comarca.

Exploring Alpens' History
Alpens has a long and interesting history. You can find old buildings and ruins that tell stories from the past.
Ancient Fortress Ruins
In the area around Alpens, there are the remains of an old castle. This castle is called the fortress of Freixenet. It was built a very long time ago, in the year 1109. The government has listed it as an important Spanish cultural heritage site. This means it's a special place that needs to be protected.
Sant Pere de Serrallonga Church
Another historical spot is the church of Sant Pere de Serrallonga. This church is even older than the fortress. It dates back to the 10th century, which is over a thousand years ago!
How Alpens Joined Lluçanès
For many years, Alpens was part of a different comarca called Osona. But the people of Alpens wanted to join a new comarca.
The Vote for a New Comarca
In 2015, the people of Alpens voted to become part of a new comarca called Lluçanès. However, this plan was put on hold because not enough towns supported it at the time.
Becoming Part of Lluçanès
Even though the plan was delayed, the idea didn't go away. Finally, in 2023, Alpens officially became part of the new Lluçanès comarca. This was an important change for the town.
