Series 1 (2010)

The first series of Alphablocks introduced the main characters and how they work together. These episodes were about 3 minutes long. They focused on simple words and sounds.

Series 2 (2011-12)

In the second series, episodes became 5 minutes long. The Alphablocks continued to explore more words. They learned about different letter sounds and how they change words.

Series 3 (2012–13)

Series 3 introduced more complex word patterns. The Alphablocks learned about:

  • Word families (like UG, AN, IN, AP)
  • Short vowel sounds (I and O)
  • Letter blends (like ST)
  • Digraphs (two letters making one sound, like CH, SH, NG, TH, AI, EE, OA, OO, AR, OW)
  • Trigraphs (three letters making one sound, like IGH, AIR)

Series 4 (2013)

The fourth series built on previous lessons. It taught about:

  • Words with beginning and ending letter blends
  • Compound words (like "snowman")
  • Long vowel sounds (A, E, I, O, U)
  • More digraphs (WH, PH, AW, AU, IR, OY, OU)

Specials (2021-22)

A few special episodes were released later. These longer episodes explored advanced word concepts:

  • Band Together: Making words with letters in alphabetical order.
  • The Wonderful Wizard of Az: Changing vowels in CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words.
  • Boo!: Focusing on vowels A, O, and OO.
  • Letters to Santa: Learning Christmas words.
  • Making Friends: Exploring how letters combine.
  • Crossover: Introducing a letter-to-number code.
  • The Case of the Missing Blocks: Creating words from two different words.
  • The Blocks v Blocks Games: Learning about anagrams (words made by rearranging letters).

Alphablocks: Word Magic

Alphablocks: Word Magic is a special spin-off series from Alphablocks. It came out on BBC iPlayer in 2020. This was the first new Alphablocks content in seven years.

This series has 26 short episodes, one for each letter of the alphabet. Each episode starts with an Alphablock doing something, and a narrator describes it. Then, three words are spelled using that letter, and a small scene shows what the word means. These episodes are usually 1 to 3 minutes long.
