Alquízar is a town and a municipality (which is like a local government area) in Cuba. It is part of the Artemisa Province.
A Look at Alquízar's History
Imagine going back in time! The first time anyone wrote about Alquízar was in 1616. Back then, it was a big coffee farm owned by a man named Don Sancho de Alquízar. That's where the town got its name!
Later, in 1826, a military post (called a 'garrison') was set up here. The town officially became a recognized place in 1879.
Where is Alquízar Located?
Alquízar is in the southeastern part of the Artemisa Province in Cuba. It is located southwest of San Antonio de los Baños and west of Güira de Melena.
The municipality of Alquízar used to be divided into smaller areas called barrios. These included Guanímar, La Paz, Pueblo (which was the main town), San Andrés, and Tumbadero.
Today, the municipality is divided into areas called consejos populares, which means "popular councils." These include Mayorquín Sur (where the main town is El Mayorquín), Norte, Dagame, and Pulido - Guanímar.

In 2022, the municipality of Alquízar had a population of 33,510 people. The total area of the municipality is about 193 square kilometers (or 75 square miles). This means there are about 170 people living in each square kilometer.
