Altiphrynoides is a small group of toads. They are often called Ethiopian toads. These special toads live only in the high mountains of south-central Ethiopia. You can find them in areas like Arussi, Bale, and Sidamo provinces. Both types of Altiphrynoides toads are currently threatened. This means their homes are disappearing, mostly because of habitat loss.
These toads used to be grouped with another type of toad called Nectophrynoides. But scientists decided they were different enough to have their own group. The main reason is how they have their babies! Altiphrynoides toads lay eggs, just like most frogs and toads. But Nectophrynoides toads give birth to tiny, fully formed toadlets. This is quite rare for amphibians.
