A Look Back: Altona's History
Altona started as a community in 1898. It got its name from a place called Altona in Germany. When it was first settled, a post office opened in Altona in 1898. This post office helped people send and receive mail until it closed down in 1935.
First Trinity Lutheran Church
Altona is also home to the First Trinity Lutheran Church. This church is part of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The First Trinity Church was founded in 1881. In 2021, the church celebrated its 140th anniversary, marking 140 years since its beginning.
