Alverca do Ribatejo is a city in Portugal. It is located near the Tagus River and is part of the Lisbon metropolitan area. Alverca is well-known for its long history with aviation.

Alverca do Ribatejo is a city within the Vila Franca de Xira municipality. A municipality is like a larger local government area. It used to be a separate civil parish, which is a smaller administrative area. In 2013, Alverca's parish joined with a nearby area called Sobralinho.
Location and Size
Alverca covers an area of about 17.89 square kilometers (about 6.9 square miles). In 2011, around 31,070 people lived there. This makes Alverca the largest city in the Vila Franca de Xira municipality. It officially became a city in 1990.
Aviation History
Alverca has been very important for aviation since the early 1900s. A military air base was built there in 1918. Many important aviation facilities are still located in Alverca today.
- OGMA: This is an aerospace company that works on aircraft maintenance and manufacturing.
- Portuguese Air Force General Storage: This is where the Air Force keeps its supplies and equipment.
- Air Force Aerodrome Engineering Unit: This unit helps build and maintain airfields.
- Air Museum Branch: A part of the Air Museum is also located here, showing the history of flight.
Alverca's aviation facilities also hosted Portugal's first international airport. This airport closed in 1942 when the new Lisbon Airport opened.
