Alvin B. Jackson is a former politician from Utah. He served as a Senator for Utah State's 14th district. He is a member of the Republican Party. Governor Gary Herbert chose him to fill a vacant seat in the Utah Senate. This happened after John Valentine resigned to lead the Utah Tax Commission. Jackson later resigned in July 2016 for a job outside Utah. Daniel Hemmert then took his place.

Early Life and Education
Alvin Jackson is an African-American man. He was born in Buford, South Carolina. He grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland.
He earned a bachelor's degree in aviation business from Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University. While studying there, he played both basketball and baseball. He also received a master's degree in business administration (MBA) from Johns Hopkins University.
Family and Faith
After finishing his MBA, Jackson lived in Washington, D.C. There, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. About a year later, he married his wife, Juleen. She grew up in Utah. For some time, Jackson served in a leadership role in his church in Kensington, Maryland.
Professional Career
Alvin Jackson has worked as a consultant for most of his life. He runs his own company, the Jackson Group. This company helps businesses and leaders with their plans and growth.
Before moving to Utah, Jackson worked in Washington, DC. He advised on important topics like national security and transportation. He was also a vice president for Insitu, a company related to Boeing.
Jackson's son, Frank Jackson, is a professional basketball player. He played for Duke University. He was chosen in the 2017 NBA draft. He now plays for the Shanxi Loongs in China.
Since 2006, Alvin Jackson has been a member of the BYU Marriott School's National Advisory Council. This group advises the business school at Brigham Young University.
