History of Alvordton
Alvordton began when a railroad line was built through the area. In 1881, Henry D. Alvord planned out the community. He named it after himself.
A post office has been open in Alvordton since 1881. The community became an official village in 1891. It stayed a village until 2007. That year, people voted to stop it from being an official village.
In 2010, the U.S. Census Bureau officially listed Alvordton as a "census-designated place." This means it's a recognized area for counting people, but it doesn't have its own local government like a village or city.
