Amar Osim (born 18 July 1967) is a Bosnian professional football manager and former player. He is known as one of the most successful Bosnian football managers.
Osim was a skilled player when he was young. He played for Željezničar in his home country. He also played in France for clubs like Saint-Dié and Strasbourg. He stopped playing football in 1997.
After his playing days, Osim became a football manager. He has had great success, especially with Željezničar. He won many titles with them, including five Bosnian Premier League titles. He also won a cup with a Japanese club, JEF United Chiba.

Playing Career: Amar Osim's Early Days in Football
Amar Osim was born and grew up in Sarajevo. He started playing football for his hometown club, Željezničar. He played for their youth team before joining the main senior team in 1986.
In 1991, he moved to France. There, he played for smaller clubs like Saint-Dié and Strasbourg. He returned to Željezničar in 1996 and played one more season before ending his career in 1997.
Even though Amar was a talented player, he didn't become as famous as his father, Ivica Osim. His father was a very well-known player and manager.
Managerial Career: Leading Teams to Victory
Željezničar: First Triumphs and European Adventures
Amar Osim began his coaching journey with Željezničar's youth team. He led them to win many local competitions. In 2001, he became the manager of the first team.
He quickly guided the club to win two Bosnian Premier League titles in 2001 and 2002. They were also runners-up in 2003.
In 2002, Osim led Željezničar to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. This was a big achievement for the club. They played against the English club Newcastle United.
He also won two national cup titles in 2001 and 2003. In 2001, he won the Bosnian Supercup too. Because of his success, he was named Bosnia and Herzegovina Manager of the Year in 2002. He left the club in 2003.
JEF United Chiba: Success in Japan
Amar's father, Ivica Osim, invited him to Japan to be his assistant coach at JEF United Chiba. When his father became the coach of the Japan national team, Amar took over as head coach.
He led JEF United to win the J.League Cup in 2006. However, after a difficult 2007 season, he left the club.
Return to Željezničar: More Titles and Records
After his time in Japan, Osim came back to Željezničar in June 2009. This was his second time managing the club.
In his first season back, he immediately led the team to win the league title. The next season, they won the national cup. In 2012, he won the league title again, setting many new records. He also won the national cup, bringing the "double" (winning both league and cup) back to Željezničar after eleven years.
Osim stepped down as manager in September 2013 to become the club's sporting director. He left Željezničar completely in December 2014. During this period, he won several individual awards for his coaching success.
Al Kharaitiyat: A New Challenge in Qatar
In December 2014, Osim became the new manager of Al Kharaitiyat, a club in Qatar.
In his first season, his team had a club record of seven games without a loss in the league. They finished in 9th place. He was even named the Qatar Stars League Manager of the Month in February 2015.
In his second season, the team finished 12th, just avoiding relegation. He left Al Kharaitiyat in November 2016 after a tough start to the new season.
Second Return to Željezničar: A Third Chapter
On 31 December 2018, Osim returned to Željezničar for his third time as manager.
His first win in this new period came in March 2019. He reached his 300th game as Željezničar's manager in April 2019. He even passed his father's record for most games managed for the club.
In the 2019–20 season, Željezničar had a great start. They won a "Sarajevo derby" against their rivals, FK Sarajevo, with a 5–2 score. Osim's team also set a new league record by going 11 games unbeaten at the start of the season.
The season ended early due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Željezničar finished in 2nd place in the league.
In the 2020–21 season, Osim achieved his 200th win as Željezničar manager. However, after a difficult period, he left the club in April 2021.
Velež Mostar: A Short Spell
On 11 June 2022, Osim signed a contract with Velež Mostar. He managed his first game for them in July 2022.
Velež was eliminated from a European competition in July. However, Osim won his first match as Velež manager in August 2022. This win was against his former club, Željezničar. Osim left Velež in November 2022.
Personal Life: Family and Legacy
Amar Osim's father, Ivica Osim, was a very famous player and manager. Amar has two children and one grandchild. His father passed away in May 2022 and was buried in Sarajevo.
