The Amaravati River is a very important river in India. It is the longest tributary of the Kaveri River. A tributary is a smaller river or stream that flows into a larger river.

The Amaravati River flows through parts of Tamil Nadu state. It passes through the Karur and Tirupur areas. The river starts near the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It begins at the bottom of a place called Manjampatti Valley. The river is about 282 kilometers (175 miles) long.

The Amaravati River helps farmers a lot. It provides water for over 60,000 acres (243 square kilometers) of farmland. This land is in the Tiruppur and Karur districts. The water helps crops grow, which is called irrigation.

There is also a special structure on the river called the Amaravathi Dam. This dam helps to produce electricity. It can make 4 megawatts of electricity. This power can be used for homes and businesses.
