Ambrogio Fogar (born August 13, 1941 – died August 24, 2005) was a famous Italian adventurer. He was known for his incredible journeys as a sailor, writer, and rally driver. Fogar was a true explorer who loved challenging himself in the wildest parts of the world. He received many honors for his bravery and achievements.

Ambrogio Fogar's Amazing Adventures
Ambrogio Fogar completed many impressive long-distance trips. He was the first Italian to sail alone around the world from east to west. This incredible journey started and ended in Castiglione della Pescaia, Italy.
Surviving in the South Atlantic
In 1978, Fogar faced a terrifying challenge. His boat was hit by orcas and capsized. He survived for over ten weeks in a life raft in the South Atlantic Ocean. His friend, Mauro Mancini, was with him during this ordeal. They were eventually rescued, but Mauro sadly passed away shortly after.
Exploring the North Pole and Deserts
Fogar also went on a solo sled expedition to the North Pole. This was another very difficult and dangerous adventure. He also loved racing cars in tough conditions. He competed several times in the famous Dakar Rally and the Rallye des Pharaons, which are long-distance races across deserts.
Facing Challenges and Never Giving Up
In 1992, Fogar had a serious accident while racing in Turkmenistan. He became paralyzed from the neck down. But this did not stop his adventurous spirit! In 1997, even though he was in a wheelchair, he competed in a yacht race around Italy. This showed his incredible courage and determination.
Ambrogio Fogar passed away in 2005 from a heart attack. He is buried in the Monumental Cemetery of Milan in Italy.

Ambrogio Fogar had two daughters, Rachele Fogar and Francesca Fogar. Rachele was born in Milan in 1991, and Francesca was born in Tradate in 1975.
