About Ambrose
Ambrose is located in Texas. You can find it where two roads meet. These roads are Farm to Market Road 1897 and U.S. Highway 69.
How Ambrose Got Its Name
Ambrose was named after an early settler. His name was Ambrose Bible. He bought land there on February 20, 1845. This land was first surveyed by a person named Daniel Montague. At that time, the land was part of Fannin County.
Railroad and Post Office
A railroad company built a stop in Ambrose. This was the Denison, Bonham and New Orleans Railroad. Having a railroad stop helped the community grow.
A post office also opened in Ambrose in September 1902. James B. Moore was the first postmaster. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office.
Changes Over Time
Over the years, things changed in Ambrose. The railroad stop closed down by 1927. The post office also moved away in 1930. It moved to a nearby town called Bells.
