Ambrose Power (born 1801, died 1869) was an important Irish Anglican priest. An Anglican priest is a religious leader in the Church of Ireland. He was the son of Sir John Power, who held a special title called a Baronet. A Baronet is like a knight, and the title can be passed down in a family.
Ambrose Power's Life and Work
Ambrose Power studied at Trinity College, Dublin, which is a well-known university in Ireland. In 1828, he was given the important role of Archdeacon of Lismore. An Archdeacon is a senior priest who helps a bishop manage a church area called a diocese. Ambrose Power continued in this role until he passed away on November 8, 1869.
His Family Life
Ambrose Power was married twice and had several children.
First Marriage
He first married Susan Thacker in 1837. Susan passed away on August 7, 1854, in France. They had at least eight children together, including:
- Mary (1844–1907), who married Henry Windsor Villiers-Stuart in 1863 at Lismore Cathedral.
- Rebecca Zena, who married Richard John Marshall on September 23, 1858, also at Lismore Cathedral.
- Susan Caroline, who married Reverend William Claypon Bellingham on August 22, 1878, at Lismore Cathedral.
Second Marriage
Ambrose Power married for a second time to Catherine Margaret Forde on September 29, 1857. Their wedding took place at St. George's Church in Dublin. They had at least two sons:
- Ambrose William Bushe Power (born 1844, died 1907).
- Robert Henry Power (born 1851, died 1894).
