The Story of Amegy Bank

How it Started

Amegy Bank started in 1989. Back then, it was called Northwest Crossing National Bank. In 1990, Walter Johnson joined the company. Under his leadership, the bank's name changed to Southwest Bank of Texas.

Becoming Public

In 1992, the bank raised more money from investors. This is called a "capital offering." In 1997, the bank offered its shares to the public for the first time. This is known as a "public offering." It means regular people could buy parts of the bank.

A New Name and Owner

On January 25, 2005, Southwest Bank of Texas announced a big change. It would become Amegy Bank of Texas. This new name started on March 7, 2005. The company that owned the bank also changed its name. Its stock symbol on the NASDAQ stock market changed too.

Later in 2005, another company bought Amegy Bank. Zions Bancorporation bought Amegy Bancorp for about $1.7 billion. In 2007, Amegy Bank also joined with InterContinental National Bank. This bank was located in San Antonio.

Where Amegy Bank is Located

Main Office in Houston

Amegy Bank's main office is in the Five Post Oak Park building. This building is in a business area in Houston, Texas. The Five Post Oak Park building was finished in 1982.

Moving to a New Home

Amegy Bank first moved to the Uptown Houston area in 1990. Before 1996, its main office was in a building called the ICA Center. This building was about 57,000 square feet. Amegy Bank used almost all the space in that building. It even had a special drive-through for customers.

For two years, Amegy Bank looked for a new main office. In 1996, it decided to move into Five Post Oak Park. Another bank, Heritage Bank, was already there. The two banks swapped places. Amegy Bank got about 80,000 square feet of space. It also got more room for its signs. This move helped both banks keep their offices in the Uptown Houston area. Amegy Bank took up five floors in the new building. It also got a bigger drive-through with five lanes.
