American Top 40 facts for kids
American Top 40 (often called AT40) is a very popular radio show that plays the top songs. It's a syndicated program, which means it's broadcast on many different radio stations at the same time.
The show was created by Casey Kasem in 1970. He was the first host of American Top 40 from July 4, 1970, until August 6, 1988.
After Casey Kasem, Shadoe Stevens took over as host. He hosted the show from August 13, 1988, to January 1995. Casey Kasem then returned to host the show again in 1998.
On January 10, 2004, Ryan Seacrest became the new host of American Top 40. He has been hosting it ever since.
The radio show was first made by a company called Watermark, Inc.. This company later became part of ABC Radio.

Hip hop music started being played on AT40 a lot in the late 1980s and 1990s. It is still a big part of the show today.
