Adam Aminé Daniel (born April 18, 1994), known as Aminé, is a talented American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He became famous with his first big song, "Caroline." This song was a huge hit, reaching number 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Aminé has released several albums, including his first, Good for You, in 2017, and his second, Limbo, in 2020.

Aminé's Early Life and Education

Aminé's parents came to the United States from Eritrea and Ethiopia. His mother worked at a post office, and his father was a teacher and translator. Aminé grew up in Portland, Oregon, where his family spoke Amharic at home.

He went to Benson Polytechnic High School. Later, he studied marketing at Portland State University. However, he decided to leave college to focus on his music career. In June 2025, Portland State University gave him an honorary doctorate degree. This was to celebrate how he created a new path in rap and hip hop. Before his music career took off, Aminé also worked as an intern at Complex magazine, which is about hip-hop.

How Aminé Started in Music (2014–2015)

Aminé began his music journey in 2014. He released his first mixtape, Odyssey to Me, on January 17, 2014. Later that year, on September 4, he released his first extended play (EP) called En Vogue. In 2015, he followed up with his second mixtape, Calling Brío.

Aminé's Big Break with "Caroline" (2016–2017)

On March 9, 2016, Aminé released his first major single, "Caroline." He also directed the music video for "Caroline," which came out on YouTube in June 2016. The song quickly became popular, climbing to number 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. By June 2017, "Caroline" was certified three-times platinum, meaning it sold millions of copies.

In August 2016, Aminé signed with Republic Records. After "Caroline" became a hit, he released his second single with Republic Records, "Baba," in November 2016. He even performed "Caroline" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that same month.

In March 2017, Aminé released another single called "REDMERCEDES." The music video for this song came out in April 2017. Many people praised the song for sounding like early 2000s rap, similar to Missy Elliott's music. Missy Elliott and AJ Tracey later joined him on an official remix of the song. Aminé also released "Heebiejeebies" with Kehlani around the same time.

In June 2017, XXL magazine named Aminé one of the top new rappers in their "2017 Freshman Class." He then released the single "Turf." On June 22, 2017, Aminé announced his first studio album, Good for You. Before the album's release, he put out singles like "Blinds" and "Wedding Crashers" featuring Offset. Good for You was released on July 28, 2017. The album reached number 31 on the US Billboard 200 chart. After the album, Aminé released the single "Squeeze" in October 2017.

In January 2018, Aminé was featured on Rejjie Snow's song "Egyptian Luvr." He then released "Campfire" with Injury Reserve in April. Aminé announced his project OnePointFive in August 2018, and it was released on August 15. He also contributed to the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse movie soundtrack with his song "Invincible" in December 2018.

In 2020, Aminé released new singles like "Shimmy" in February and "Riri" in May. On July 6, 2020, he released "Compensating" featuring Young Thug. At the same time, he announced his second studio album, Limbo, which was released on August 7, 2020.

On October 25, 2021, Aminé released the single "Charmander." He then announced his mixtape TwoPointFive, which he called his "EPLPMIXTAPEALBUM," and it was released on November 5, 2021.

In April 2023, Aminé teamed up with Kaytranada to release "4eva," featuring Pharrell Williams. This was the first song from their joint album, Kaytraminé. In October 2023, Aminé was featured on the song "C'mon" by South Korean singer Jini.

In May 2025, Aminé released his third studio album, 13 Months of Sunshine. This album featured other artists like Leon Thomas, Toro y Moi, and 454.

Aminé's Personal Life

Aminé lives in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, and also in Los Angeles. He has mentioned that Quentin Tarantino is his favorite director. Aminé is interested in directing films and working in fashion in the future.

Aminé's Views on Important Issues

Aminé has openly shared his thoughts on political matters. For example, during his first TV performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in November 2016, he changed his song "Caroline" to include a verse about the 2016 US presidential election. He spoke about his pride in being Black and his parents being immigrants who came to the US for better opportunities.

In October 2023, Aminé signed an open letter. This letter asked President Joe Biden to help stop the bombing in the Gaza Strip and to create a safe path for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.
