Amina Hersi Moghe (Somali: Aamina Xirsi Mooge, Arabic: أمينة موجي هرسي) was born in 1964. She is a successful Somali businesswoman. Amina has started many big projects in Kampala, Uganda. These include the Oasis Shopping Mall and the Laburnam Courts Apartments. She also started the first sugar factory in Northern Uganda. This factory, called Atiak Sugar Factory, helps bring jobs and growth to the area. Amina is also a major seller of cement and building materials in Kampala. Her successful businesses make her a great role model for young people in Africa.

Amina's Early Life and Business Journey

Amina was born in Bungoma, a town in Western Kenya. Her mother, Sarah Hersi Ali, was also a well-known businesswoman. Amina's uncle, Adam Hersi Ali, was another important person in her life. He worked in Kenya's Ministry of Finance in the late 1980s.

When Amina and her sister were young, they often joined their family in trading goods between Kenya and Uganda. Their mother sent them to accounting school. There, they learned important skills for business. Having a strong, business-minded mother taught Amina to be brave and take smart risks in business.

Starting a New Business in Uganda

One of Amina's biggest risks was closing her successful hardware store in Kenya. She decided to start a new business in Uganda after the country became more stable in 1996. Even though she had no business connections there, she used her skills to open a hardware store in Kampala. This brave step into the unknown was the start of her amazing journey as a businesswoman.

Amina's Business Success

"It was a pleasant surprise and I'm grateful for the recognition. The award has really inspired me to do more in the coming years," – Amina Moghe Hersi.

Amina quickly got used to her new home in Uganda. She helped her family's trading business by being their contact person on the ground. She then started to grow the family business even more. She entered the real estate business, which involves buying, selling, and managing properties.

Major Projects and Awards

Amina became one of the wealthiest people in Uganda. She now owns the Oasis Centre, a large shopping mall, and the beautiful Laburnam Courts Apartments. Both of these are in the center of Kampala. She also runs one of the biggest companies that sells cement and other building materials in Uganda. In 2008, Amina received the Woman Investor of the Year Award. This award recognized her for her big projects that have changed Kampala's skyline.
