History
Amity has an interesting past! It was first settled and given a name in 1832. Back then, it was called Emmettsville.
Around 1837, the community decided to change its name to Amity. The word "Amity" means friendship, which is a nice name for a community!
Even though it was called Amity, the local post office had a different name. It was known as the Democracy post office. This post office was very important for sending and receiving mail. It operated for many years, from 1834 until 1923.
