His Family Life

In 1810, Ammi Williams married Laura Loomis. They built a family together. The couple had two daughters. Their first daughter, Laura, was born in 1820. She later married Lemuel Grant, another important person in Atlanta's history. Their second daughter, Martha Buckingham, was born in 1826.

Building a Legacy

Ammi Williams left a lasting mark on the area. Around 1825, he built a house known as the Swanton House. This house is still standing today. It is the oldest home in DeKalb County. The Swanton House is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is recognized as a very important historical building.

Williams also made smart land purchases. He bought a large piece of land known as land lot 78. This land is now a big part of downtown Atlanta. His early investments helped lay the groundwork for the city's future growth.
