Amy is a small, unincorporated community located in Howell County, Missouri, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a settlement that isn't officially part of a city or town. It's like a neighborhood without its own local government.
Amy is situated about 12 miles (or about 19 kilometers) southwest of a larger town called West Plains.
History of Amy
The community of Amy got its start with a post office. This post office opened way back in 1891. It helped people send and receive mail for many years.
The post office stayed open until 1931, which is when it closed down. The community was named after a girl named Amy Black. She was the daughter of an important postal official at the time.
In 1925, not long before the post office closed, Amy was a very small place. It had only 19 people living there.
