Amy Nelson (born 1980) is an American entrepreneur, lawyer, and writer. An entrepreneur is someone who starts and runs their own business. In 2017, she started a company called The Riveter. This company offered workspaces and help for women who were working.
Amy Nelson also worked for then President Barack Obama's team. She helped with fundraising for his campaign. She has also written articles for magazines like Inc. and Forbes.
Growing Up and School
Amy Nelson was born in 1980 and grew up in Ohio. When she was young, she became interested in politics. She even went door-to-door to help with political campaigns.
Her first jobs were as a nanny and then as a waitress. She went to Emory University and earned a degree in International Studies. After college, she worked at the Carter Center. Later, she earned a law degree from the NYU School of Law.
Her Career
After finishing law school, Amy Nelson worked in law and politics. She first worked as a lawyer for a company called Cahill Gordon & Reindel. While living in New York, she helped with President Barack Obama's Finance Committee. She also helped start Gen44, a group that raised money for Obama's campaign from people under 40.
In 2012, Nelson moved to Seattle. She moved there with her husband, Carleton Nelson.
Starting The Riveter
In 2017, Amy Nelson started The Riveter with Kim Peltola. The Riveter was named after Rosie the Riveter. Rosie the Riveter was a famous symbol for women who worked in factories during World War II.
Amy Nelson raised $700,000 to start her company. This money is called "seed capital" and helps new businesses get started. The first office for The Riveter opened in Seattle in May 2017.

Amy Nelson also co-hosts a podcast called What's Her Story With Sam & Amy. Her co-host is another entrepreneur named Samantha Ettus. On the podcast, they talk to women who are leaders in their fields. Some famous guests have included Gloria Steinem and Melinda Gates.
