Amy R. Reibman is an American electrical engineer. She is known for her important work with video technology. This includes making videos look good, sending them over networks, and analyzing them. She is a professor at Purdue University.
Becoming an Engineer
Amy Reibman's parents were also involved in science and computers. Her dad was an engineer and her mom was a computer programmer. This helped her become interested in computers when she was still in elementary school.
She started college studying mechanical engineering. But then she switched to electrical engineering at Duke University. She earned three degrees from Duke:
- A bachelor's degree in 1983
- A master's degree in 1984
- A Ph.D. (a high-level degree) in 1987
Her Career Journey
After finishing her studies, Amy Reibman became a professor at Princeton University. Later, she joined a research lab called AT&T Labs Research. She worked there for 23 years! At AT&T, she was recognized as a top scientist and inventor.
Eventually, she returned to teaching. Now, she is a professor at Purdue University.
Special Honors
Amy Reibman has received some big honors for her work:
- In 2005, she was named a Fellow of the IEEE. This is a special title given to engineers who have made important contributions, especially for her work on sending video over computer networks.
- In December 2022, she was also elected as a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. This means she is recognized for her inventions.
