Amyrmex golbachi is a special type of ant that lives in Argentina. It is currently the only known species in its entire group, called the genus Amyrmex. This makes Amyrmex golbachi quite unique in the world of ants!

What is an Ant?

Ants are amazing tiny insects that live in large groups called colonies. They are known for working together to find food, build homes, and protect their queen. There are many different kinds of ants all over the world, each with its own special features.

Where Does Amyrmex golbachi Live?

This particular ant species, Amyrmex golbachi, was first found and described in Argentina. This means it is native to South America. Scientists are still learning more about where exactly it lives and what its natural habitat is like.

The Story of Its Discovery

Amyrmex golbachi was first described by a scientist named Kusnezov in 1953. For a long time, not much was known about this ant. It was even thought to belong to a different group of ants called Dolichoderinae.

Rediscovery and New Classification

In 2009, two scientists, Ward and Brady, "rediscovered" this ant. This means they found it again after many years and studied it more closely. They found out that Amyrmex golbachi actually belongs to a different subfamily called Leptanilloidinae. This change was important because it helped scientists understand the ant's family tree better.
