Learning and Schools
Anúcita does not have its own public school. Children from the village travel to the nearby town of Nanclares de la Oca to attend school.
A Look Back in Time
Anúcita is located on the southern side of the Tuyo mountain range. You can see the village from many spots along the Bayas River.
The village is divided into three main parts: Ánucita, San Miguel, and Mimbredo. San Miguel and Mimbredo are in the lower area, right next to the Bayas River.
San Esteban Church
The church of San Esteban is a special building in Anúcita. It is located on the highest part of the village, offering amazing views of the farmlands by the Bayas River.
The church has a unique design with a polygonal (many-sided) front and a square tower. The tower is topped with a bell tower and has a porch with two arched openings. We know that the main altar's altarpiece (a decorative artwork behind the altar) was built in 1793 by Juan Antonio Moraza.
On the outside wall of the tower, below a window, you can see a circular symbol called a Chrismon. This symbol is made from the first two letters of Christ's name in Greek. The Chrismon is a symbol of Christ and also represents victory, both in battles and in faith.
The Old Palace
Another important building in the village is the Palace of Ánucita. This palace once belonged to the Zulueta family, who were known for leading a cultural group called "Sancho el Sabio."
The palace is a rectangular building with three floors. It looks very strong and solid, built with stone and masonry. It has beautiful wooden features, like its front door and balconies. There is also ironwork on the main balcony above the door.
Village Life and History
In the San Miguel part of the village, there are two large buildings called "silos." These were used to collect and store cereals. Today, these buildings belong to a cooperative that deals with cereals.
In the Mimbredo neighborhood, there is a small mill that is no longer used. This area also has a bridge over the Bayas River with three arches. On the other side of the bridge, you can find an old, well-preserved spring known as Fuente Pinto.
The people of Anúcita celebrate their patron saint's day every year on October 12th.
