Her Political Career
Starting in Local Government
In 2003, Ana Alós López was elected as a councilor for her hometown, Huesca. A councilor is someone who helps make decisions for the city. After serving two terms as a city councilor, she was elected Mayor of Huesca in 2011. She made history by becoming the first woman to be elected mayor in Huesca.
Moving to National Politics
After her time as Mayor, Ana Alós López was elected to the Congress of Deputies in 2015. The Congress of Deputies is one of the two houses of the Spanish parliament, where laws are made. She was re-elected to this position in the general elections of 2015.
She was also a member of important groups within the parliament, like the Finance and Civil Service Commission and the Education and Sport Commission. These groups work on specific topics to help the country.
In the general elections held on April 28, 2019, she was elected as a Senator for the province of Huesca. A Senator is also a member of the Spanish parliament, but in the other house, called the Senate.
Most recently, in the 2023 Spanish general election, she was again elected to the Congress of Deputies, representing Huesca.
