Ana María Botella Serrano (born 23 July 1953) is a Spanish politician. She was the Mayor of Madrid, the capital city of Spain, from late 2011 until 2015. She was the first woman to hold this important position. Ana Botella is also married to José María Aznar, who was the Prime Minister of Spain.

Early Life and Education
Ana Botella was born in Madrid, Spain, on July 23, 1953. She went to school at Colegio Irlandesas Madrid. After that, she studied law at the Complutense University of Madrid. After finishing her studies, she passed a special test. This allowed her to become a civil servant for the government.
Early Career in Politics
Ana Botella joined a political group called the People's Alliance in 1978. For 14 years, she worked as a civil servant. She worked in different government departments. These included the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Finance. Her work helped her understand how the government runs.
Her Time in Madrid Politics

Ana Botella was part of the Madrid City Council from 2003 to 2011. During this time, she was a deputy mayor. She helped manage important city departments. From 2003 to 2007, she was in charge of Social Services. Then, from 2007 to 2011, she oversaw the Environment Department.
Becoming Mayor of Madrid
In 2011, the previous mayor, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, left his job. He became the Justice Minister for the country. Because of this, Ana Botella became the new Mayor of Madrid. This happened on December 27, 2011. She was the first woman to be the mayor of Madrid.
During her time as mayor, Madrid tried to host the 2020 Summer Olympics. This bid did not succeed. On September 9, 2014, Ana Botella announced something important. She said she would not try to be re-elected as mayor in the 2015 elections. Her term as mayor ended on June 13, 2015.
Personal Life
Ana Botella married José María Aznar in 1977. He later became the Prime Minister of Spain. They have three children together. Their names are José María, Ana, and Alonso. Their daughter, Ana, got married in 2002. Ana Botella also has four grandchildren.
