Her Life and Career

Ana María Yabar is married and has three children. She studied a lot! She earned a special degree called a "doctorate" in law from the University of Navarra in 1974. Later, in 1976, she earned another doctorate in Economic Science from the Complutense University of Madrid.

She became involved in politics and joined the Liberal Party. In 1983, this party teamed up with two other parties, the Popular Alliance and the Democratic Popular Party. These three groups formed a bigger team called the People's Coalition for the 1986 elections.

In 1986, Ana María Yabar was elected to the Spanish Congress of Deputies. This is like the main parliament in Spain, where laws are made. She represented the area of Valencia Province.

In 1988, the Liberal Party decided to join with the other parties to form a new, bigger party called the People's Party. Ana María Yabar decided to leave the Liberal Party. She then became an independent member of Congress before joining another party called the Democratic and Social Centre (CDS).

For the 1989 election, Yabar ran for a seat in Madrid Province. She was not elected that time. However, she later had the chance to return to Congress when a former Prime Minister (the head of the Spanish government) resigned. But she chose not to take the seat.

In 2006, she became the Director of the University Institute of Environmental Sciences. This means she led a special university department that studies the environment. After that, she taught law at the Complutense University of Madrid.
